A Special exhibition race for ARC members only was held where 7 entries were received. The uniqueness of this event was that the minimum weight of the rider was 65 kgs while the maximum weight was 104 kgs. In a thriller, run over a distance of just 400 meters Little Champ ridden by Prakash Mehta was declared the winner with Millennium Money ridden b Kinner Lakhani weighing 90 kgs finished by a short head. Sprinter ridden by Zahir Merchant and Rodeo Romeo ridden by the veteran Tolly Jhaveri finished third and fourth respectively.

Mumbai Gymkhanas Races 2005 Day 1

This year’s gymkhana season opened with great success and saw the dawn of a new era for young riders. Amateur Riders’ Club conducted gymkhanas has been a stepping stone towards becoming good jockeys. The past saw the late Jimmy Barucha as the master trainer and today Pesi Shroff has donned this mantle and will now train 10 youngsters in becoming top jockeys during the next two years.
In spite of just a seven race card - the opening day of the Amateur Riders’ Club conducted Gymkhana Race Meeting 2005 took off to a happy start.
The first race of the day “THE BYRAMJI TATA STAKES” run over a distance of about six hundred meters saw horse Raghuveer the first favorite as the winner. Owned by Mr & Mrs Bhavesh Shah & Santosh Singade Raghuveer was ridden by R Shinde winning the owners stake money of Rs 5,000/-.
Placing second was Kisna ridden by S Paresh and owned by M/s Paresh Sakpal Tiram Mahakale Wasim Mahakale and Nikhil. Horses Black Gold ridden by Chandrakant Pawar and Ashoka ridden by S Y Pawar stood third and forth respectively. Distance verdict 5 Nk ½. Timing 47.2 sec.
